Bethlyn Arthur is a Ghanaian certified midwife, public health professional, international speaker and patient voice advocate using her lived experience with sickle cell disease to advance awareness, prevention, compassionate healthcare, patient empowerment and African representation.

Biography of Bethlyn Arthur
Bethlyn Nana Adjoa Arthur is a Ghanaian certified midwife, public health professional, international speaker and patient voice advocate committed to changing how the world understands sickle cell disease and the people living with it.
Living with sickle cell disease has given Bethlyn firsthand understanding of the physical, emotional, social and healthcare realities experienced by patients and families. Her journey has also shown her that the public conversation around sickle cell disease is too often dominated by fear, stigma, limitation and incomplete information.
Bethlyn believes that the realities of the condition must be communicated honestly, but never in ways that erase hope, dignity, ability or human potential.
Her work as a midwife gives her a second perspective. She understands healthcare not only as a patient, but also as a professional responsible for supporting people during some of the most vulnerable and important moments of their lives. This experience has strengthened her conviction that effective healthcare must combine clinical knowledge with compassion, communication, respect and patient participation.
Through her public health training, Bethlyn connects individual experiences with larger questions of awareness, prevention, health education, healthcare access, maternal health, community engagement, policy and systems improvement.
Her advocacy focuses on sickle cell awareness, prevention and informed choice, patient empowerment, patient-centered healthcare and African representation in global health conversations.
Bethlyn’s vision is to become a trusted bridge between patients, families, healthcare professionals, communities, institutions and decision-makers.
Her mission is not only to speak about sickle cell disease. It is to help change how the world sees, supports, treats and includes the people living with it.
